New Jersey Governor Odds: Jack Ciatarrelli Closes Gap on Mikie Sherrill in Final Month of NJ Governor Race

The race for New Jersey governor is heating up, with Jack Ciatarrelli and Mikie Sherrill deadlocked in the latest polls. Do Kalshi bettors agree, or is there more of an edge for the democrat candidate still? Peter Alexis examines the latest New Jersey Governor odds as the race enters the final month.

New Jersey Governor Odds: Jack Ciatarrelli, Mikie Sherrill Neck and Neck in Final Month

The 2025 New Jersey governor race is shaping up to be one of the most competitive in years. Republican Jack Ciattarelli is running for the second time after narrowly losing to incumbent Phil Murphy in 2021. This time, he faces Democratic frontrunner Mikie Sherrill, a congresswoman and former Navy helicopter pilot with a strong statewide presence. Both candidates bring political experience and name recognition, making this a high-stakes rematch between two established figures in a state that has historically leaned blue.

New Jersey hasn’t seen a Republican governor since Chris Christie left office in 2018, and Democrats have won five of the last six gubernatorial elections. Still, Ciattarelli’s close call in 2021 proved that Republicans can compete in the Garden State under the right conditions. With concerns about taxes, cost of living, and public safety taking center stage, the GOP challenger is hoping to capitalize on voter frustration and make this a true toss-up.

On Kalshi, the election market currently gives Democrat Mikie Sherrill a 78% chance to win, though that number has been sliding. Back in May, Sherrill held a commanding 91% probability, but the tightening polls have introduced new uncertainty. A recent poll showed both candidates locked at 43%, signaling real movement toward the Republican side.

The data paints a much closer race than four years ago, when Phil Murphy held a steady 7-point lead at this same stage and ultimately won by around 3 percent. Ciattarelli’s familiarity with the statewide electorate, combined with lingering economic frustrations, has helped him build late momentum. Still, Sherrill maintains a solid advantage thanks to strong support in North Jersey and among suburban voters.

If the current trends continue, the odds could narrow even further heading into election week. While Sherrill remains the favorite on Kalshi, the markets are clearly beginning to price in the possibility of another late Republican surge in one of the bluest states in the country.
