New Jersey hasn’t seen a Republican governor since Chris Christie left office in 2018, and Democrats have won five of the last six gubernatorial elections. On Kalshi, the election market currently gives Democrat Mikie Sherrill a 78% chance to win, though that number has been sliding. A recent poll showed both candidates locked at 43%, signaling real movement toward the Republican side.
The data paints a much closer race than four years ago, when Phil Murphy held a steady 7-point lead at this same stage and ultimately won by around 3 percent. Ciattarelli’s familiarity with the statewide electorate, combined with lingering economic frustrations, has helped him build late momentum. Still, Sherrill maintains a solid advantage thanks to strong support in North Jersey and among suburban voters.
If the current trends continue, the odds could narrow even further heading into election week. While Sherrill remains the favorite on Kalshi, the markets are clearly beginning to price in the possibility of another late Republican surge in one of the bluest states in the country.
