Blue Wave Odds 2026: Will Democrats Win a Blue Wave or Blue Tsunami?

Prediction markets give Democrats a strong chance of a blue wave in the 2026 midterms. On November 3, Kalshi priced a "blue wave" at 87%, a bigger "blue tsunami" at 69% and a "mega tsunami" at 35%. Each market is defined by specific House and Senate seat totals, so they let you trade on how big a Democratic win will be, not just whether it happens.

What each market really asks

The blue wave is the easiest bar. Democrats need a House majority and to hold at least 49 Senate seats, so they could win the House, fall short of Senate control and still clear it. That's why it trades well above the Democratic Senate control price.

The blue tsunami needs both chambers: 235 House seats, 17 more than a bare majority, plus a 51-seat Senate majority. At 69%, traders see it as slightly more likely than not.

The mega tsunami needs 240 House seats and 54 Senate seats, which would mean Democrats flipping at least seven Senate seats on net. At 35%, it's a long shot but not an outlier.

How the wave markets have moved

The blue wave contract has been one of the steadier markets on Kalshi. It was about 84% in late September and ia now in the high 80's. The tsunami has firmed up, moving from about 49% in late September to 69% by November 3, as Democratic prices in the key Senate races rose.

How it fits with the other midterm odds

  • House control: Democrats about 94% on Kalshi. Kalshi traders favored Democrats in 235 House races and Republicans in 200 as of November 3, with 11 toss-ups.
  • Senate control: Democrats about 74%.
  • Senate seats: more than 52 Democratic seats is Kalshi's most likely single outcome at about 54%.

Why trade a wave market instead of chamber control?

Wave markets let you express a view on the scale of the result. If you think Democrats will win big, the tsunami at 69¢ pays 31¢ per contract. If you think Democrats win the House but the Senate stays close, the blue wave at 87¢ is a safer way to back that, and buying No on the tsunami is a way to bet against a landslide.
