Kansas City Royals vs. Baltimore Orioles Prediction
Orioles ace Corbin Burnes was stellar yesterday, allowing one run over eight innings of work, but he still got the loss.
Burnes, who will be a free agent in the offseason, might have made his final start in an Orioles uniform as the Royals used small ball to plate the game's only run.
The nine-hole hitter, Maikel Garcia, drew a walk and swiped second base to allow the Royals to get on the board. Bobby Witt Jr., who led the team with 109 RBIs during the regular season, delivered a two-out RBI single.
Royals starter Cole Ragans was lights out, blanking the Orioles over six innings.
Ragans delivered one of his best starts of the season in the biggest game of the year.
Baltimore's best chance to score came in the fifth inning when they had first and third with one out. Catcher James McCann struck out on three pitches, setting up Gunnar Henderson for a two-out opportunity. Henderson was set down on strikes as well, which ended the O's rally.
Baltimore again had a chance in the ninth inning as Ryan Mountcastle led the inning off with a walk but could not advance as the next three Orioles failed to reach base.
The Orioles collected five hits in the loss and Cedric Mullins led the team with two hits, including one double.
Veteran Seth Lugo gets the rock today. Lugo earned his first All-Star appearance, posting a record of 16-9 paired with a 3.00 ERA.
Florida native Zach Eflin will oppose Lugo. Eflin went 10-9 with a 3.59 ERA.
