The prospect that everyone has their eyes on is Corbin Carroll, who Arizona actually just extended long-term. Carroll is considered the second-best prospect in Major League Baseball and just inked an 8-year, $100-plus million deal to stay with Arizona long-term.
Carroll will be the new face of this team going forward and should lead the way to a rarely successful Diamondbacks season. Alek Thomas, the 22-year-old outfielder, will be the ballclub’s opening-day center fielder and look to build off his first season in the majors.
Arizona still has some solid veterans in the lineup with Christian Waker, Josh Rojas, and Nick Ahmed. Ketel Marte returns to the ball club after years of potential trade rumors. Marte is still the best hitter on this team, by far. The Diamondbacks went out and added a few more savvy veterans such as Lourdes Gurriel Jr. and Evan Longoria. These older guys should help develop this young core and help get these guys to the postseason.
The Diamondbacks’ starting rotation may look a little different in a few months. Although Bumgarner will be entering the Hall of Fame, he has seen better days on the mound and is on his way out at the end of a fantastic career.

Don’t be surprised if one of the young arms we saw last year gets called up midseason like Tommy Henry. For now, the Diamondbacks rotation is good enough, and above average on the front end. Zac Gallen is one of the best pitchers in baseball and is one of the favorites to win the NL Cy Young. Merrill Kelly just pitched for Team USA in the World Baseball Classic and is coming off the best season of his career. Bumgarner and Davies will do enough, and young starter Ryne Nelson looks to be taking that last spot in the rotation. This is the best Diamondbacks team we’ve seen in years.
After a 74-win season, the Diamondbacks' 2023 season win total sits at 75.5. Considering Arizona won’t have to face the Dodgers or Padres rotation as much this year with the new schedule, this should only help the young Diamondbacks roster hit this win total.
Not only do I think this team exceeds all expectations, but I also wouldn’t be surprised if this team sneaks into the playoffs this year. Either way, Arizona is soaring over their projected win total of 75.5 this season.
