Chicago Cubs vs. Milwaukee Brewers Prediction
Entering the season, Milwaukee has the second-best odds to win the NL Central, behind the St Louis Cardinals. This is a talented roster that has playoff experience, and they feel as if they should be able to get back to the postseason this season. One issue for the Brewers entering the season was their issues with ace Corbin Burnes. Burnes wanted a new contract before the season, and he was clearly not happy with the Brewers organization pre-season. It will be a situation to monitor throughout the season. Chicago, meanwhile, began the rebuilding process a season ago, but they were pretty aggressive in the off-season, adding some well-established major league players. One of those players was former world champion shortstop Dansby Swanson. Swanson has already impacted this team so far and is hopeful to continue his success in Chicago. Another guy that the Cubs added was former all-star Cody Bellinger, who will have an opportunity to shine this season. Today the Cubs will send another guy that they picked up in the off-season to the bump in the form of Jameson Taillon. Taillon turned in a strong campaign a season ago as a Yankee and is hopeful that have similar success this year.
I will be backing the Cubs on the money line today. I like today's pitching advantage for the Cubs as they face veteran Eric Lauer. Lauer has struggled against multiple guys in this Cubs lineup, including Ian Happ, who is batting .364 lifetime vs. Lauer. Lauer is a guy that is not going to overwhelm teams with his stuff, and I believe that these Cubs bats are due for a breakout today. On the flip side, Taillon is a guy that I can trust to go out and limit this Milwaukee lineup. I have not been impressed with the Brewers' bats so far in this series, and I will trust that they stay cold today.
