Los Angeles Angels vs. Oakland Athletics Prediction
The Los Angeles Angels vs. the Oakland Athletics will clash for an AL West affair on Sunday afternoon. The Angels are fresh off of a blowout win over the As on Saturday after the Athletics took game one of this series. Oakland is expected to be one of the worst teams in baseball this season. This is a team that had a playoff-caliber roster a couple of seasons ago, but the organization decided to blow up the roster and try and start over. That leaves a lot of minor-league talent level on this roster paired with some veterans on short-term deals. The biggest issue for Oakland is not their bats but their pitching. This is a weak rotation paired with a bullpen that has a lot of question marks surrounding it. The Angeles, meanwhile, are hopeful of snapping to their long playoff drought. You could make a case that there is no team in baseball with more pressure to at least make the playoffs this season. On paper, this is a playoff team headlined by the two best players on the planet in, Mike Trout and Shohei Ohtani. The fact that this team has not been able to go to the playoffs with the two is mind-boggling. The Angels did make some solid moves in the off-season to try and add talent around the two stars, and one of those big additions was Tyler Anderson. Anderson turned in a career year with the Dodgers last season. Anderson posted a record of 15-5 with an era of just 2.57. Opposing the southpaw will be lefty Ken Waldicuk. He saw limited innings last year as he turned in an era of 4.93 in 34.2 innings.
I will be backing the Angels today on the money line. I am not going to overthink this game, and I believe that the Angels will continue their momentum from yesterday. I expect big things from the Angels this year, and they need to come out with a focused effort and win series when they play teams as bad as the Athletics are. Tyler Anderson should shut down this Oakland lineup today, and I trust that the Angels will take care of business and win their first series of the season.
