The Diamondbacks are one of my dark horses this year. Considering they are one of the youngest teams in the league, I expected them to get off to a slow start out of the gates. It will take this young core some time to find their rhythm and hit their stride. Facing a locked-in Yu Darvish isn’t ideal for the snakes. They face an uphill battle on the road against one of the best.

San Diego Padres vs. Arizona Diamondback Prediction
Was Zac Gallen’s first start of 2023 a cause for concern? It seems as though the young ace was affected by the new pitch clock in his first start of the season. Gallen gave up five runs on Opening Day and didn’t look like himself. The young pitcher won’t get any favors against a stacked Padres lineup on their home field tonight.
Juan Soto seems to be hitting his stride, coming off his first home run of the season, and they’ve got Machado and Bogaerts in the middle of the order to back him up. Gallen has decent numbers against the Padres but in a limited sample size. Trent Grisham has the most at-bats against the young ace and has only faced him 15 times. New additions like Bogaerts and Carpenter will be facing the young arm for the first time tonight and should provide an additional spark for San Diego’s offense.
After dropping their first two games of the season and scoring only two-three runs in two days against the Rockies, San Diego is heating up. Winners of three in a row, one of the best teams in baseball is locked in and ready to keep the streak going. This lineup is stacked from top to bottom. Ha-seong Kim hit a walk-off for the Padres last night, hitting in the ninth spot in the lineup. This is the deepest and best Padres lineup we’ve maybe ever seen. Even Padres legend Jake Peavy stated that this is the best Padres team he’s ever seen when he was on the San Diego broadcast the other night.
Arizona opened up (+110) on the moneyline in this content but is currently (+125) at most books. Yes, the Padres are public tonight. They will be a public side most nights. The line movement is encouraging, though, as books clearly don’t want to be overexposed to the Padres as a short favorite. As the odds continue to move, I feel more and more confident in San Diego winning their fourth game in a row against Arizona’s young ace. Until Gallen proves that he can handle the pitch clock and new rules, he will remain a fade.
