The Washington Nationals and the Colorado Rockies will duel thins out from the mile high on Thursday afternoon as the Rockies will play in front of their home crowd for the first time this season. Opening Day at home is always a game that fans show out for, which typically will get the home team fired up.
Colorado Rockies vs. Washington Nationals Prediction
Both of these teams have struggled a bit out of the gate as the Nationals bring a record of 1-5 into play, and the Rockies enter this one supporting an overall record of 2-4 on the season. The Rockies had a tough schedule to open the year as they had to face two of the best teams in baseball, the San Diego Padres and the Los Angeles Dodgers, so being 2-4 with that kind of schedule to start the year really is not that bad.

The Rockies are not slated to be a playoff team this year, but from an offensive standpoint, this is a team that can score runs and produces at a high level. The issue for the Rockies will likely be pitching, as they have a below-average staff paired with a below-average bullpen.
Washington, meanwhile, is projected to be one of the worst teams in baseball. This is a team that is in full rebuild mode at the moment, and they know that the next couple of years will not be fun. The Nationals did win a World Series in 2018, but since then, things have gone downhill as they blew up that World Series roster and looked to the future.
One of those young players that the Nationals are excited about is Josiah Gray, who will be getting the start this afternoon. Opposing Gray will be Southpaw Kyle Freeland.
I will be backing the home team today on the moneyline. As we all know, the Rockies play their best baseball at Coors, and I expect a strong performance from the Rockies in front of their fans today. I do expect runs both ways, so do not expect this one to be sweat-free, but when you break this down, Colorado has the much better offense, and I think that they will be too much for the Nationals to keep pace with this afternoon. Let’s stay hot after a great day yesterday!
