San Diego comes into play, playing their best baseball of the young season. The Padres just took three of four games in Atlanta, and their lone loss of the series was on a walk-off hit. This Padres team is one of the best in baseball. In a couple of months, they will add one of the best players in baseball to their roster in the form of Fernando Tatis Jr. This team has all the talent to win a World Series. It will simply be a matter of putting it all together this season.
New York, meanwhile, also feels as if they have a World Series-caliber roster. The Mets choked last year down the stretch of the regular season and did the same in the playoffs, but they are hopeful that they can flip the script on that this year. The Mets added reigning Cy Young award winner Justin Verlander to their roster in the off-season, making them one of the most feared rotations in baseball. Verlander began the year on the DL, and the Mets are optimistic that this will be a short-term injury.
We will see a great pitching matchup tonight as Yu Darvish will get the ball for the Padres. Opposing Darvish will be Mets ace Max Scherzer.
I will take the Mets on the moneyline tonight. San Deigo is a public dog, and I feel they are being overvalued tonight, coming off of their weekend performance. This is a tough spot for the Padres after a long four-game series on the road. Secondly, Max Scherzer really struggled in his last start against the Milwaukee Brewers, and I would be shocked if Scherzer struggled in back-to-back starts. I will trust Scherzer and the Mets to bounce back at home tonight.
