5 minLos Angeles Angels vs. Washington Nationals Prediction: Will Shohei Ohtani Shut Down the Nationals?
In my humble opinion, Shohei Ohtani should win the MVP every season. Even if he ends the year with a 3.00 ERA and a .275 batting average, the fact that he pitches and hits is enough for me to call him the most valuable player in baseball. He is literally two superstar players in one, and the Washington Nationals will have their hands full facing him tonight in Los Angeles.
Los Angeles Angels vs. Washington Nationals Prediction
Don’t let the Nationals get hot! In their last four games, the Nats have scored 29 runs! They faced multiple lefties in the previous week, and the Nats seem to find more success at the plate with their LHP lineup. Tonight against one of baseball’s best right handers, Washington will struggle to produce any sort of offense. Victor Robles, Dom Smith, Lane Thomas, and Joey Meneses all perform better historically against left-handed pitching.
This is the best Shohei Ohtani has looked on the mound since he came over to MLB. Carrying a 0.75 ERA this season, Ohtani will be too much to handle for the young Nationals roster who struggles against hard-throwing righties. Their lineup simply can’t hang with the future 2023 AL MVP.
To make matters worse for the Nats, nobody in this lineup has ever faced Ohtani. Anyone who played or knows anything about baseball knows that the more at-bats you get against a pitcher, (typically) the more success you’ll have against him. Seeing Shohei for the first time tonight, Washington is in for a tough night.

It’s typically a good sign when odds move in the direction of your bet. For example, the Angels tonight opened up around a (-300) favorite. Los Angeles is currently (-325) on the moneyline. Shohei’s fantasy score has been bumped up on numerous DFS platforms, another great sign that he’s going to shove tonight. All signs are pointing to a Shohei shutout against the lowly Nationals.
As a Nationals fan, I’ve unfortunately had the pleasure of watching the majority of their games this season. They simply cannot hit against RHP. Against one of baseball’s best tonight, even my biased mind can’t think of a way the Nationals manufacture any runs tonight.
I can already see it now on ESPN, “Shohei Ohtani pitches a complete game shutout against the Nationals.” Instead of backing the full game under or taking a chance on the Angels -2.5, back the Nationals team total under at plus money. Although Shohei may give up a solo shot, the Nats won’t have many base runners or opportunities to string together consecutive hits.
