I bet you can’t guess who is leading Major League Baseball in ERA two weeks into the season. No, its not Shohei Ohtani or Jacob deGrom. Surprisingly, Kyle Freeland of the Rockies still carries a 0.00 ERA after two incredible starts. Will Freeland stay hot and shut down the struggling Cardinals, or will Nolan Arenado and Paul Goldschmidt do some damage at Coors Field tonight?
Colorado Rockies vs. St. Louis Cardinals Prediction
Freeland’s 0.00 ERA probably isn’t sustainable, but the 2017 seventh-place NL ROTY seems to have returned to form for now. Although St. Louis currently sits at 3-7, this lineup is potent, and tonight presents a perfect get-right opportunity for the Cards. St. Louis loves facing LHP, especially Arenado, and Goldy. We know Freeland is due to regress, and with the total set at 12, expect that 0.00 ERA to be significantly higher come tomorrow.
Miles Mikolas pitched like an ace at times last season but never really found his groove on the road. In tonight’s matchup, not only does Mikolas have to pitch on the road, but at Coors Field, where runs are extremely prevalent. Mikolas has given up an astounding 19 hits in less than ten innings this season. Those are Patrick Corbin-type numbers. After giving up 10 earned runs against the Atlanta Braves and Toronto Blue Jays, don’t expect Mikolas to get back on track at the most hitter-friendly ballpark in baseball.
Considering how well Freeland has pitched this year and Mikolas’ breakout 2022 season, you’d expect this total to be lower even with them playing in Colorado. Oddsmakers are expecting plenty of offense tonight. The Cardinals desperately need to break out of their offense slump, and what better scenario than facing an inconsistent lefty at Coors Field
Don’t sleep on this Rockies offense, either. Colorado has put up 20 runs in their previous three games and has no trouble putting up runs at home. Facing a pitcher tonight who seems to have lost some confidence provides another great opportunity for Kris Bryant and this Rockies offense to hang a crooked number.

The over tonight is currently bringing in 35% of bets but nearly 62% of the handle. Big bettors are taking a stab at the Coors over tonight, and I’m one of them. You won’t see many totals higher than this matchup tonight, and for good reason. MLB totals set at 12 don’t grow on trees, and while many small bettors think they’re getting value on the under with two “good” arms on the bump, it is important to acknowledge that the total is this high for a reason. Expect plenty of runs from both sides against two pitchers who couldn’t ask for worse matchups.
