We all know what Hunter Greene’s main issue is: command. If Greene could limit the walks, he has the stuff to be one of the best pitchers in baseball. Now 23 years old, the former MLB No. 1 prospect should be rounding into form and finding his identity on the mound. Instead, Greene still struggles to get through the fifth inning. In his first two starts this season, Greene has six walks and hasn’t even made it through the fifth inning. Against the Atlanta Braves’ potent lineup, the odds are against him to change the narrative tonight.

Ronald Acuna is back. After a torn ACL and a disappointing 2022 season, Acuna is finally healthy and looks confident at the plate. Acuna is currently raking .340 in the leadoff spot for the Braves. Matt Olson and Austin Riley have picked up where they left off last season and are both hitting above .300. The new “X-Factor” for Atlanta has been shortstop Orlando Arcia, who’s been doing serious damage at the bottom of that lineup.
The Braves are once again stacked offensively, and this lineup is filled with lefties who match up well with Greene. Not only do the Braves match up well with the young flamethrower, but we should also get some help from the youngster with a few walks and a short start.
This Reds bullpen has a 4.84 ERA in the last ten games. Nobody coming out of that bullpen will strike fear in any of the Braves players’ hearts. Runs will be coming early and often for Atlanta tonight. Instead of targeting the runline, back the Braves to go over their team total. Atlanta’s lineup is stacked from top to bottom, and I wouldn’t be surprised if they go over the 4.5-team total in one inning.
They have no weak spot in their lineup, and there will undoubtedly be an inning where Greene struggles with his command. If Greene gives up some free passes on the basepaths, it will only take one swing from Olson, Riley, Acuna, or even Arcia to clear the bases. With the amount of respect oddsmakers are giving the Braves by setting them as (-275) favorites against Greene, expected a lopsided battle and the Braves to put up plenty of runs.
