The Miami Marlins and the Philadelphia Phillies will duel things out from the City of Brotherly Love on Wednesday afternoon as the two teams close out this three-game series. The winner of today's game will be the winner of this series, as the two teams have split the first two games.
Philadelphia Phillies vs. Miami Marlins Prediction
We all remember the run that the Phillies went on a season ago, and they are hopeful that they can enjoy similar success this year. It will be no easy task early in the year as the Phillies are missing MVP Bruce Harper, who should return within a month or so.
Miami, meanwhile, comes into this season with pretty low expectations. The Marlins were pretty active in the riff season, adding some solid talent, including Luis Arraez, who hit for the cycle last night. The issue for Miami is that they play in one of the best divisions in baseball, and when you break down this roster, they are just not all that deep.
The Phillies will send their ace Zack Whlleer to the mound today. Wheeler has struggled to start his year as he enters this game with an era of 5.59 in 9.2 innings pitched. Wheeler finished second in CY Young voting a couple of seasons ago and is expected to be in the hunt to win one this year.
Opposing Wheeler will be young right-hander Edward Cabrera. Cabrera has struggled to start his year as well as he supports an era of 5.40 in 6.2 innings pitched. The main concern with Cabrera is his control, as he has allowed thirteen walks in just 6.2.
I am going to trust the Phillies to bounce back behind a strong performance from Wheeler today. Wheeler is due for a dominant start, and I love the way that he matches up against this Marlins lineup. On the flip side, I expect Cabrera to struggle with his command and for this Phillies lineup to make him pay and put up runs to support Wheeler. Let’s stay hot and cash in!
