San Francisco Giants vs Los Angeles Dodgers Prediction

Only two hitters in this mediocre Giants lineup have had any success against Kershaw in their careers: J.D. Davis and Mike Yastrzemski. Yaz will probably be sitting against the big lefty tonight, and Davis’ sample size is small (only 11 at-bats). Everyone else projected to be starting in this Giants lineup tonight either hasn’t faced Kershaw, or they’ve struggled against him previously. Either way, it should be much of the same for Kershaw and the Dodgers tonight as they look to wrap up a three-game series in San Francisco.

After the total opened at eight on most books, we are now seeing some totals at seven. It’s probably not going to be Alex Cobb tonight, who oddsmakers expect to deal with this decreasing total. Cobb gets crushed by pretty much everyone on this Dodgers team. Mookie Betts, J.D. Martinez, and Max Muncy (who hit two home runs the other night) all see Cobb very well at the plate, along with new addition David Peralta.

Although the line movement in this matchup tonight isn’t ideal for the Dodgers, I am still backing them to defeat the Giants tonight. Getting Kershaw at (-160) to beat a team he’s defeated nearly 30 times in his career may seem too good to be true, but I’m taking the bait and backing the future Hall of Famer. This Giants lineup from top to bottom is half as good as the Dodgers, and against a pitcher, they have limited prior success against, that narrative won’t be changing tonight.

The Dodgers are off to a much slower start than the public anticipated. Hovering around .500 for the first two weeks of the season, we should start to see this team breaking away from the rest of that NL West and rip off some wins. This lineup is simply too potent to produce a .500 team, and after getting shutout last night by the Giants, expect Los Angeles to bounce back with a much-needed win. Alex Cobb will look more like a pitching machine than a major leaguer in this one.
