Cincinnati Reds vs. Philadelphia Phillies Prediction: Can Nick Lodolo Lead Reds to Victory?
Cincinnati Reds vs. Philadelphia Phillies Prediction: Can Nick Lodolo Lead Reds to Victory?
It’s no longer up for debate; the 2022 World Series runner-ups are officially struggling out of the gates. They are sitting at 4-8 and without two of their biggest stars due to injury; this just simply isn’t the same team from last year. Facing one of the best young lefties in baseball, will Philly turn it around, or will they drop their fourth game in five days?
Cincinnati Reds vs. Philadelphia Phillies Prediction
Nick Lodolo has pitched lights out in his first two starts of the season, including a seven-inning shutout against Philly just last week. The young lefty fanned 12 Phillies and only allowed three hits. It’s clear that this Philadelphia lineup just isn’t the same without guys like Bryce Harper, Rhys Hoskins, and Jean Segura in the meat of that lineup. Maybe Philly is struggling out of the gate because they celebrated their runner-up rings like they won the World Series last year. I’m not sure if the baseball gods appreciate that type of behavior…
Enough bashing of the Phillies. It’s not like the Reds have been winning games either, right? Well, yes, the Reds have lost four of their previous five games, but three of those losses were in Atlanta to a much better Braves team. Cincy put up runs in all of those games, too. Although they haven’t been winning, they’ve covered each of their previous five matchups. It might not look like it in the standings, but this young Reds team is keeping games close against good teams and playing solid baseball.
Multiple Reds hitters were bumped up on their fantasy scores, indicating an offensive edge for Cincy against Falter. The lefty has been solid up to this point for the Phillies but had closer to a four ERA last season. Expect him to regress back to his 2022 form tonight against a Reds lineup that doesn’t mind facing left-handed pitching.
The Phillies opened up a short favorite last night when the lines opened, but Cincy was quickly steamed to the betting favorite. The Reds are currently (-135) in most places, including DraftKings. This is a significant line move considering less than 54% of the bets and handle are backing Cincinnati to win or cover this game tonight.
It typically takes more action than that to move a moneyline more than 40 cents, but there must have been some respected betters who bet Cincy and moved the line. Back the Reds with the sharps and continue to fade Philly until their stars return; Trea Turner and Bryson Stott can’t win games by themselves.
