3 minMilwaukee Brewers vs. Seattle Mariners Prediction: Can Corbin Burnes Shut Down the Mariners on Monday?
It’s been an up-and-down start for Corbin Burnes in 2023. Burnes got the ball on Opening Day and was roughed up for four runs in only five innings of work. In his following start, it was much of the same for the Brewers ace, who didn’t even make it out of the fifth inning. A switch seemed to have flipped last week though when Corbin dealt eight scoreless innings of three-hit baseball. Which version of Corbin Burnes will we see as he makes his fourth start of the year in Seattle tonight?

Milwaukee Brewers vs. Seattle Mariners Prediction
Although Corbin Burnes has been shaky to start the season, we can’t let Chris Flexen off the hook for his last start. Flexen didn’t make it out of the second inning when he gave up ten hits and eight runs at Wrigley against the Cubs. We know Flexen’s career splits indicate that he’s a much better pitcher at home, this type of start is alarming. It looked more like the Cubs were taking batting practice on the field than a baseball game being played. Facing one of the best offenses in baseball, don’t expect Flexen to bounce back tonight.
I’ll always admit when I was wrong, and I was 100% wrong about the Brewers heading into the season. I didn’t expect much from this makeshift lineup and inconsistent starting rotation who always seem to collapse in the Postseason. You can’t forget about the 2019 Josh Hader/Trent Grisham meltdown (and people forget Grisham was traded immediately following this loss).
This Brewers team is built differently. Christian Yelich is putting up great at-bats at the top of the order, Rowdy Tellez already has five home runs on the season, and Willy Adames is one of the most underrated shortstops in baseball. Offseason additions Jesse Winker, Luke Voit, and Brian Anderson have all gotten out to hot starts. For once, the Brew Crew doesn’t have to rely solely on their pitching staff to carry them to victory. This Brewers roster can flat out hit, from top to bottom.
As the odds continue to shift towards Milwaukee, I’m willing to bet we see a similar version of Corbin Burnes that we saw in Chicago the other night. It looks like the Brewers' ace made the necessary adjustments, and has corrected whatever was bothering him in his first two starts. I’ll happily put my money on Corbin Burnes after nearly throwing a no-hitter in his last start against a struggling Chris Flexen. Back the Brewers to stay hot and earn a victory on the road in what should be a Corbin Burnes masterclass.
