The St. Louis Cardinals are the most overrated team in baseball. Vegas overvalued the Cardinals heavily at the start of 2023. The bats simply aren’t there for St. Louis, and guys like Miles Mikolas and Jordan Montgomery haven’t pitched up to their last season forms. Facing a young star in George Kirby tonight, don’t expect the Cardinals bats to get going just yet.

George Kirby might be the most accurate pitcher in MLB. He’s so accurate that it even hurts his game at times because hitters know a strike is coming more often than not. If you like betting on guys who fill the zone and don’t walk anyone, Kirby is your guy. After a brutal first start, Kirby has really settled in, giving up three runs over 12 innings in his last two starts. He is going to attack this Cardinals lineup that isn’t seeing the ball well to start the season.
Ty France picked up right where he left off in 2022. The All-Star is currently slashing .316 with 14 RBIs. Eugenio Suarez has a great matchup against the lefty tonight as well, and the whole world has been waiting for Julio Rodriguez to get going. A matchup against one of the worst starting pitchers in Major League Baseball could be just what the doctor ordered for Rodriguez.
Jarred Kelenic, once a top prospect, is finally here. Kelenic is hitting .310 with four home runs, an incredible start for the young outfielder after struggling in his debut in 2022. With Kelenic and Suarez’s pop in the middle of the order, this team has gotten way more dangerous at the plate in 2023. Don’t sleep on Cal Raleigh either; the switch-hitting catcher has serious pop and could take Matz deep tonight.
Speaking of Matz, the Mariners get to face one of baseball’s least intimidating arms tonight. Yes, Matz pitched fine against the Pirates last week. Before that, he gave up a combined ten runs against Colorado and Atlanta.
Matz is looking more like a left-handed pitching machine than a starting pitcher right now and maybe the 2023 version of Patrick Corbin— an auto-fade, with the odds shifting nearly 40 cents towards Seattle, back the home team to get a win against one of the worst arms in baseball. It’s a great sign that the total is moving up too. This Seattle lineup is potent, and the Cardinals have yet to arrive in 2023. Continue to fade St. Louis until oddsmakers start showing them less respect.
