Dean Kremer Orioles

Baltimore Orioles vs. Boston Red Sox Prediction: Will the Bats Get to Dean Kremer, Chris Sale?

The Orioles host the Red Sox for the first game of their three-game series. Will the bats get to Deam Kremer and Chris Sale tonight? Handicapper Krabs breaks it all down.

Baltimore Orioles vs. Boston Red Sox Prediction: Will the Bats Get to Dean Kremer, Chris Sale?

Chris Sale was, at one point, the best left-handed pitcher in baseball. That was nearly five years ago. Since battling back from multiple injuries, along with fighting Father Time, the last three seasons have been tough for the seven-time All-Star. Sale has only pitched in 15 games since 2020 and has looked extremely rusty in 2023. After his best start in years, is Chris Sale getting back on track, or has his time passed?

Baltimore Orioles vs. Boston Red Sox Prediction

After three starts and giving up 16 runs, people were starting to talk about how realistic Sale’s comeback really is. He shut the haters up last week when he dealt for six innings against the Twins, striking out eleven batters and only giving up one run. Which version of Sale will we get tonight in Baltimore?

If we knew the answer to that question, we’d be rich. Here’s what we do know: Sale’s first start in 2023 was against the O’s, and they shelled Sale for seven runs in only three innings. So why are the Red Sox the betting favorite tonight against Baltimore, with the total moving down? The books must be expecting Sale to bounce back from his atrocious first start against Baltimore.

Don’t let the Orioles get hot! It might be too late, as the Birds quietly have twice as many wins as losses in 2023. Once again, the Orioles are winning baseball games, and nobody cares or wants to talk about it because they have the second lowest salary cap and don’t have the big names or market. Well, the Orioles just keep on winning, thanks to their solid young offensive core and over-performing pitching rotation.

Dean Kremer is one of the starting pitchers for the O’s who’s over-performed over the past couple of seasons. Kremer had a 3.23 ERA last season in 22 starts for the Orioles, an extremely impressive feat. Much like Sale, Kremer started off slow in 2023 but is coming off his best start of the season by far. It looks like whatever adjustments that needed to be made were in full effect last week against the Nationals.

Now I’m not saying Kremer is going to follow up that scoreless outing with another one against Boston, but I do think he pitches well with the total at eight and juiced to the under. Kremer actually pitched against Sale at the first start of the year and was also shelled. That game had 17 runs and a total of 9.5. Why is tonight’s total almost two runs lower than the first matchup between these two arms? Probably because they will both pitch much better tonight in round two.

With nearly 80% of bets and handle on the over, fade the public and back the under tonight. Yes, it might be scary taking an under with old Chris Sale and Dean Kremer on the bump, but this total is low and moving down for a reason. The Orioles' offense has struggled recently, with their previous five games going under. The most impressive part: Baltimore won all five of these games. Their pitching has been carrying Baltimore to victory, don’t expect that to change tonight against the underperforming Red Sox at home.
