Cincinnati Reds vs. Texas Rangers Prediction
Texas enters play tonight, playing to the tune of a 14-7 record overall. This has been one of the best starts in Rangers franchise history to a season. Texas has struggled over the last couple of years, so this is a welcomed sight to the Rangers faithful. This is a team that has gotten much better over the last few years, and they have been extremely aggressive in the free-agent market.
Last year they added a pair of all-star infielders in Marcus Semien and Corey Seager, and this off-season, they added multiple arms to their rotation, headlined by the best pitcher in baseball, Jacob deGrom. One of those other arms they added was the man getting the baseball tonight Nathan Eovaldi. Eovaldi has struggled a bit to start his Rangers career as he represents an era of 5.40 on the young season.
The Reds, meanwhile, come into this game struggling as of late with an overall record of 7-15. The Reds knew entering the year that this would be a long season. This is a roster that is in the process of a rebuild and had very low expectations entering the year. The man getting the ball tonight is someone that the Reds are extremely optimistic about. Nick Lodolo gets the ball for the Reds in hopes of bouncing back from his worst performance of the young season. Lodolo gave up eight runs in 4.2 innings vs. the Rays. Prior to that, Lodolo had allowed just four runs in his first seventeen innings of the season.
I am going to trust the youngster to bounce back today and put my money on the Red's first five moneyline. I know that this is an ugly play, but I think the line here screams Reds early. Lodolo had a bad outing which will happen in this league, but he has thrown the baseball much better than his numbers indicate. I am very high on this kid and believe that he is one of the best young arms in baseball. On the flip side, Eovaldi has really struggled this year, and I think that the Reds can scratch across a couple of early runs tonight.
