Washington is playing .500 baseball over their last sixteen games and outscored their opponents by ten runs over that stretch. This team is currently outperforming expectations thanks to good pitching from their young arms and offensive contributions from the entire lineup. Looking to sweep the Mets, will Trevor Williams enact revenge against his former team?

Washington Nationals vs. New York Mets Prediction
The Mets' offense has been cold, and Trevor Williams has honestly pitched well so far in 2023. He’s allowed less than two runs in each of his previous three starts at Coors Field and against two solid teams in the Guardians and Twins. Has Williams turned a new page since carrying a 6.18 ERA in his final season with the Pirates in 2020? To be fair, the 31-year-old has kept his ERA below 3.40 since joining the Mets in 2021. I do believe Williams has improved over the years, but the soft-throwing righty could have his hands full against this Mets lineup tonight.
Williams spend the last two seasons with the Mets, where he rejuvenated his career. Unfortunately for the RHP, this means that the Mets know exactly what pitch mix will be coming tonight. Nobody knows Williams' stuff better than himself, and the Mets; the team who tinkered with the old righty’s pitch mix/mechanics and rejuvenated his career.
The Mets have been held in check by Williams in years prior but in a small sample size. Guys like Pete Alonso and Francisco Lindor have only faced him for a combined 15 at-bats. You can’t heavily account for Williams’ previous success against his former team when capping this game. If anything, the Mets honestly match up with Williams extremely well. They should touch up the crafty veteran’s slow four-seamer and sinker.
Pete Alonso hasn’t recorded a hit in this series and is only (+380) to hit a home run tonight. Alonso has the shortest odds to go yard tonight out of any hitter on either team. If you look at the Mets team total, the juice has increasingly risen on the over throughout the day, an odd occurrence considering the Mets have only scored one run in this entire series. It looks like the Mets’ bats are waking up against their old teammate tonight.
Not only are the Nationals bats red-hot, they hit left-handed pitching extremely well. Hitting .299 with a .753 OBP, it’s clear this lineup simply prefers facing left-handed pitching. Tonight the Nats get to face a soft-throwing lefty with a dinky curveball and a career ERA of 4.15. Don’t be surprised if the Nationals’ bats stay hot and they sweep the Mets.
Yes, I think the Nationals have a very solid chance of winning tonight at nearly (+200). The better play is the over, with the Mets facing a soft-throwing righty in a great matchup and the Nats getting a lefty on the bump. Back the over and enjoy the show, it’s looking like Pete Alonso is hitting at least one home run tonight.
