The New York Yankees are in a bad spot. They currently have THIRTEEN players on the injured list as of May 1st, including Aaron Judge, Josh Donaldson, Carlos Rodon, Giancarlo Stanton, and a boatload of bullpen arms. No wonder this team has only scored six runs over their previous four-game losing spell. Facing a good young arm in Tanner Bibee, runs won’t be coming any easier for the Yankees tonight.

New York Yankees vs. Cleveland Guardians Prediction
Gerrit Cole has been the best-starting pitcher in baseball in 2023. Sporting a 1.11 ERA in six starts, Cole is coming off his “worst” start of the year, where he allowed two runs in 6.2 innings pitched. This might be the most locked-in we’ve ever seen Gerrit Cole start a season. It’s clear he still wants that invite to the Baseball Hall of Fame, and Cole still clearly has plenty of gas left in the tank to continuously beef up that resume. Cole has already faced the Guardians once this season when he dealt for seven innings and allowed only two runs.
The Guardians are off to a brutal start this season. After making the playoffs as the youngest team in baseball last year, nobody expected this team to come out this cold out of the gates. Jose Ramirez was one of the best hitters in baseball last season but has yet to hit his stride in 2023, currently slashing .279 on the year with only three tanks.
This Guardians lineup is a shell of itself from what we saw in 2022, and it won’t get any easier facing Gerrit Cole tonight. Nobody on this Guardians team hits over .222 in their career against Cole besides Ramirez, who’s really been struggling anyways. The rest of this lineup either struggled to face Cole, or they haven’t faced him yet…either way, Cole has the upper hand.
This total opened up at 7.5, a reasonable line considering Cole is pitching, and these lineups are cold as ice right now. With nearly 50% of bets on both the over and under (per DraftKings), the total has crept down to 7.5, along with Bibee’s strikeout prop getting bumped up from 4.5 to 5. Per these line moves, it looks like Tanner Bibee will be following up his incredible MLB debut with another gem against the struggling Yankees.
Although the Guardians on the runline looks intriguing, take the under and back Tanner Bibee to pitch well against an underwhelming Yankees lineup and Gerrit Cole to continue shoving. Both of these offenses will continue to struggle against two solid right-handers. The Yankees have won every game Gerrit Cole has started in 2023, back the under instead of trying to “catch the falling knife” and predict when Cole’s dominance will end.
