Entering the season, the Tigers had fairly low expectations as they continued to rebuild their roster. This is a team filled with solid players, but there are a lot of question marks around the team for the future. One young player that the Tigers are high on and feel will be a key part of their future is Riley Greene. Greene leads the team in hits on the young season with twenty-eight.
The Mets, meanwhile, entered this season with extremely high expectations as they were seen as one of the favorites to win the World Series. New York was active in the off-season, most notably landing the reigning Cy Young award winner Justin Verlander. Verlander will make his first start of the season today, facing his former team. He has shown no signs of slowing down at age forty, and you have to imagine that he is fired up to pitch in the park where he started his career and enjoyed so much success. Opposing Verlander will be veteran Southpaw Eduardo Rodriguez.
I am going to trust Verlander and the Mets this afternoon and take them on the -1 spread. This feels like a great buy-low spot for this Mets team, who has struggled as of late. I understand that their bats have been cold, and they are not playing their best baseball but looking to avoid a sweep today with their ace on the mound; this price is too good to pass up.
I do not expect Verlander to go all that deep into this game, but I expect him to be solid in the innings that he does pitch. Rodriguez has been one of the best pitchers in baseball over the last month, but I feel as if he is due to regress today against this Mets lineup. Let’s keep rolling and cash in!
