After starting the season 18-9, the Milwaukee Brewers haven't won a baseball game this month. The San Francisco Giants, on the other hand, are coming off a series win in Houston. Don’t be fooled by each team’s recent track record; the Brewers have the pitching, hitting, and bullpen advantage against the Giants tonight.

What could possibly break the Brew Crew out of this four-game skid? A matchup against Sean Manaea may just do the trick. The veteran lefty raised his ERA to 7.85 against the Padres in Mexico City, where he only lasted two innings. Not only did Manaea give up five runs, the lefty walked four batters. It looks like Manaea has yet to fix his command issues from 2022. Although the Brewers haven't been good against LHP this season, there aren’t many starting pitchers in baseball worse than Sean Manaea. If they can’t get right against him, this team doesn’t deserve their 18-13 record.
Corbin Burnes is the best pitcher in baseball when he’s locked in. We’ve seen it this season against the Angels in his last start and against the Diamondbacks when he dealt for eight scoreless innings. Over his past four starts, Burnes looks like his previous Cy Young winning self, giving up five earned runs in 24.1 innings pitched. Facing an overrated Giants lineup that leads baseball in strikeouts this season, Burnes should dominate a Giants lineup that’s struggled since returning from Mexico City.
The Giants have the second-worst bullpen in baseball. Their ERA in 2023 in the seventh through ninth innings ranked second to last in baseball at 6.88. Even if the Giants somehow have the lead late, their ERA is above 7 in the last three innings when innings this season. The Brewers, on the other hand, have one of the best bullpens in baseball. Devin Williams has yet to give up a run in 2023 and may have the best pitch in baseball with his “Airbender.” This veteran Giants lineup will not only struggle against the Brewers’ starter but should be extremely limited against their elite bullpen.
The Brew Crew couldn’t ask for a better “get right” spot facing one of baseball’s worst pitchers, Sean Manaea. Back the Brewers as the odds continue to shift in their direction. Milwaukee opened up (-110) on the moneyline and currently sits (-120) at most books. Hopefully, the line continues to move toward the road favorite. Either way, Corbin Burnes should continue to pitch well as he hands the ball off to Devin Williams to close it out.
