Chicago White Sox vs. Kansas City Royals Prediction: Can Dylan Cease Lift White Sox to Win?

After going .500 in their last ten games, the Chicago White Sox are still one of the worst teams in baseball. Nine games under .500 with a -54 run differential. Not even 2022 AL Cy Young runner-up Dylan Cease can save this team. The White Sox’s ace has struggled mightily this season. Will Cease be able to turn it around against Zack Greinke and the Royals on the road?

Chicago White Sox vs. Kansas City Royals Prediction

Zack Greinke has been battling Father Time for years. Nearly 40 years old with almost 20 MLB seasons under his belt, it’s impressive that Greinke still pitching, let alone any success. We know that Greinke can’t pitch on the road. He’s been open with his social anxiety that he’s been dealing with for years, and how it creates problems on the road.

Greinke at home is a different story. The 39-year-old somehow turns back the clock nearly every start at Kauffman Stadium. The crafty veteran has only given up more than two runs once this season, and it was against debatably the best offense in the league, the Braves. The veteran dealt for five scoreless innings against Baltimore last week and should have no problem mowing down one of the worst offenses in baseball tonight.

The Royals just lost a series to the Athletics at home, yet they are barely an underdog against one of the best pitchers in baseball last season. That should tell you how poorly Dylan Cease has pitched recently.

Cease carries a 4.58 ERA with 19 walks in his 7 starts this year. After giving up only three earned runs in his first three starts, Cease has walked 12 and given up 26 hits in his last 19 innings pitched. The flame-throwing righty was once considered the best pitcher in baseball at one point last season. He pitched so terribly recently that he’s barely a favorite against the nine-win Royals tonight.

This Royals’ offense has been nothing like their football counterpart Chiefs, but the lowly Royals haven’t played much worse than the White Sox this year. Their young core of Bobby Witt, Vinnie Pasquantino, and MJ Melendez doesn’t mind facing high velocity, and old man Salvy Perez is still good for a home run almost every series. Although it typically isn’t your smartest investment to back Kansas City on the diamond, they are facing not only a struggling organization tonight but a struggling ace.

Back the young Royals bats against Cease and the White Sox tonight. After a nice offensive performance with seven of the nine starters recording at least one hit against high-velocity Mason Miller, the Royals bats will be ready for Cease’s fastball tonight. With less than 30% of bets and handle on the Royals to both cover and win, Kansas City is the sharp side tonight with reverse line movement on their side.
