Oakland Athletics vs. New York Yankees Prediction

While both have enjoyed success as franchises, Oakland is currently in the worst position in baseball. Not only is this the worst roster in baseball but it was recently announced that the As would be leaving in Oakland in a few years and find a new home in Vegas. This did not make the Oakland faithful happy; first, they lost their Raiders, and now it appears the Athletics will be following in their footsteps as far as the on-field struggles for the As; they have been well documented as they entered the season with the lowest expected win total in baseball. This is a team that is trying to see who fits and has rolled out a lot of different lineups to begin the year. The Yankees, meanwhile, entered the season with expectations, and from a betting standpoint, they were one of the favorites to win the World Series. New York was the odds-on favorite to win the AL East, and as we enter play tonight, they find themselves in the basement of the division. Now some of that has to do with the success of the AL East, as the Rays are off to a historic start, and the Red Sox and Orioles have massively overachieved. Some of it also has to do with the fact that the Yankees just have not played that well. Ever since reigning MVP Aaron Judge went down with an injury, the wheels have fallen off as the Yankees have lost six of their last nine games. 

I will trust the Yankees to bounce back and cover this -1 line. I know the Yankees have struggled as of late, but this feels like the perfect get-right spot at home with Nester Cortes on the mound. Cortes has been one of the best pitchers in baseball over the last year on his home mound, and facing a below-average Athletics lineup, I expect him to dominate tonight. On the flip side, I think that we are seeing some encouraging signs from the Yankees swinging the bats as they scored fourteen runs over the weekend vs. the Rays.
