Today is an exciting day for Cubs fans. Kyle Hendricks is making his 2023 debut after returning from injury. Unfortunately for Cubs fans, I’m unsure if this is good. The 33-year-old veteran struggled for the greater part of the last two seasons, with nearly a 5.00 ERA in nearly 50 appearances. Will the crafty veteran start his season off on the right track, or will the Mets stay hot and hand the Cubs a loss at Wrigley?

Chicago Cubs vs. New York Mets Prediction
Carlos Carrasco will be facing Hendricks and the Cubs tonight. Like Hendricks, his 2023 season has been limited due to injury. In his first start back in over a month, Carrasco gave up five runs to the struggling guardians last week.
The Mets entered this series on fire, but have dropped the first two games to the struggling Cubs. Their previous two wins against the Mets account for all but one of their wins in their previous ten games. Before heading to Chicago, the Mets were finally hitting their stride offensively for the first time this season. Tonight they’ll face a soft-throwing veteran making his first start since last June, nearly a full year. I’d like to fade any veteran returning from injury, especially Hendricks, who hasn’t pitched up to his standards in three years.
Before dropping their last two games, the Mets were debatably the hottest team in baseball. As they continue to play better, I want to keep backing them on the moneyline until oddsmakers start to adjust. Since the Mets are still barely playing .500 baseball, we have value on their moneyline as they continue to regress positively.
Fading veteran pitchers as they return from injury has been a profitable MLB system for years. We don’t know exactly what we’re going to get from Hendricks, who hasn’t pitched in nearly a year, but it can’t be any better than he looked for the past three seasons. Once the Cubs ace Hendricks is past his prime and presents an insanely great matchup for the Mets’ bats tonight.
I was shocked to see the Mets getting less than 50% of the bets to win this game in Chicago tonight. Kyle Hendricks is a public dog in his first start in nearly a year. The public remembers Hendricks’ great career and must be forgetting about his declining performance over the years. Fade Hendricks in his first start in 2023 and back the Mets to avoid a sweep as they continue to improve.
