Seattle Mariners vs. New York Yankees Prediction
Seattle has won seven of their previous ten games and are starting to play like the team that ended their decade-long postseason drought in 2022. Julio Rodriguez is finally heating up, and the rest of the team has followed suit. The Mariners dropped the series' first game last night in a 10-4 loss where Aaron Judge hit two home runs. The Yankees star is locked in. Unfortunately for Judge and the Yanks, they’re facing a young star in Logan Gilbert tonight.
Logan Gilbert has been incredible over his last five starts. The 26-year-old is hitting his stride, coming off an eight-inning performance against Oakland last week. The young star should fare well against this Yankees lineup, who did a ton of damage against the Mariners’ rookie last night. I love fading teams facing a good pitcher coming off an offensive outburst, and tonight is the perfect spot.
Judge has been on fire since returning from the injured list, but Gilbert has good numbers in a small sample size against him. Judge only has one hit in six at-bats with a strikeout against Gilbert. The righty should be able to pitch around the red-hot Judge and go after the rest of this overrated Yankees lineup. Although they’ve scored twenty runs over their previous two games, the Yankee’s pitching has won them the majority of their games during this hot stretch. Their bats are bound to cool off, and with the way Gilbert has pitched recently, tonight could be the night the Yankees finally regress.
Over 65% of bets and handle are currently backing the Yankees to win tonight, but the odds have moved towards Seattle. This reverse line movement is a great sign for Mariners' backers, as Seattle is clearly the sharp side in this contest. Until Cortes makes the necessary adjustments and starts pitching better late into games, continue to fade him and the Yankees. Cortes has been getting crushed in the fifth and sixth innings this season, and Aaron Boone clearly has no issues leaving him out there. Fade the struggling Yankees’ arm and back Seattle to avenge a blowout loss on their home field tonight.
