5 minArizona Diamondbacks vs. Colorado Rockies Prediction: Should You Back Dinelson Lamet, Rockies?
Dinelson Lamet hasn’t started a Major League Baseball game since 2021. People forget the 30-year-old once finished fourth in the Cy Young voting back in 2020. The veteran righty has been coming out of the Colorado Rockies bullpen for the past two seasons but has been itching to get another opportunity as a starter.

Arizona Diamondbacks vs. Colorado Rockies Prediction
Tonight against the Diamondbacks, Lamet gets one last chance to prove to the league that he’s capable of being a major league starting pitcher. His numbers out of the bullpen have been horrendous, as Lamet currently owns a 12.66 ERA in 12 appearances this year. As a starter, though, Lamet carries a 3.78 ERA in his career. Both the Rockies and Lamet are hoping that the move into the rotation could potentially bring back the 2020 version of himself.
Luckily for the Rockies, Lamet won’t have to be perfect for them to win this game tonight. Colorado faces Tommy Henry, who’s struggled in his career against the Rockies. Although it is a small sample size, many of the Rockies’ bats have faired well against the young lefty, who owns a 5.91 ERA against the Rockies in his career.
Over 70% of the bets and handle are currently backing Arizona to both win and cover this game tonight on the run line, but the odds have yet to move. This is a great sign for Rockies backers, as sportsbooks clearly look content with being overexposed on the Diamondbacks tonight. Arizona has been on fire in May.
Nobody wants to back the Rockies with Lamet making his first start in nearly two years. The public doesn’t know that Lamet’s expected numbers are much better than his statistics show. With his previous history of performing better as a starter and his bad luck on the mound, Lamet could be due for some positive regression.
Fading the Diamondbacks and backing the Rockies on the road doesn’t look like the ideal way to spend your Wednesday night, but there is simply too much value on Colorado in this game. With a total at 10, oddsmakers are clearly expecting this to be an offensive shootout. I’m willing to take a stab on the Rockies as a sharp underdog with a high total against a young lefty with who they’d had great success against.
