Houston Astros vs. Los Angeles Angels Best Bet: Can the Astros Get to Reid Detmers, Angels?
Many bettors will be upset when they hear Framber Valdez's start got pushed back to tomorrow. Valdez was one of today's more popular prop bets before getting scratched. It’ll be Ronel Blanco, the 29-year-old righty, who will be making the start for Houston after getting recalled from Triple-A. Will the Astros bounce back with Blanco on the mound after losing a series to Minnesota, or will the Angels win their third game in four days?

Houston Astros vs. Los Angeles Angels Prediction
Reid Detmers has been much more effective of late, but the lefty has some luck on his side. Deters allowed ten hits and two walks against the Marlins last week but only allowed three runs. Over the past few weeks, he’s also faced some of the weaker lineups in MLB. Tonight he faces a more difficult challenge against Houston, who’s been heating up offensively.
Ronel Blanco had an incredible spring training, giving him an opportunity to start the season on the Opening Day roster. After a rough start out of the bullpen, Blanco got sent back down to the minors. Well, Blanco balled out in AAA, striking out 21 batters with a 0.56 ERA in only 16 innings. Two of those appearances were starts, as it looks like Houston’s been planning to call up to help keep arms fresh over a 17-game, 17-day stretch coming up. Blanco’s looked great recently, and I feel comfortable backing him in Houston behind this lineup.
After a slow start to the season, Alex Bregman has been on fire recently. The lefty-crushing third baseman is hitting .350 with 13 RBIs in his last 15 games. Bregman has dominated left-handed pitching throughout his career (.292 BA) and should feast against Detmers tonight.
Now that Valdez has been scratched, the Astros are now only a (-145) favorite to beat the Angels tonight. With the Astros offense starting to hit their stride, I would have backed them on the moneyline with just about anyone on the mound tonight. Blanco doesn’t have to be perfect, and the Astros bullpen has been the fourth-best in baseball over the past ten games with a 3.24 ERA. Guys like Alex Bregman and Jose Altuve have been on fire lately, crushed left-handed pitching in their careers, and will lead the charge offensively for Houston in what could be a blowout.
