Tonight, two of the worst offenses in baseball face off in San Diego. You wouldn’t expect the Seattle Mariners and the San Diego Padres to be bottom-ten in nearly every significant offensive statistical category. Still, here we are, nearly a third into the MLB season. The Padres lead baseball in under, with a 39-19-2 record. You're telling me this lineup leads baseball in unders hit? Until the Padres offense wakes up, especially at home, where they are 10-21 to the under, continue to fade this offense.

San Diego Padres vs. Seattle Mariners Prediction
The Mariners' offense has been nothing special, as they’ve seemingly taken a step back after ending their postseason draught in 2022. Seattle has scored a measly 12 runs over their past five games and will be facing Joe Musgrove tonight, who seems to be hitting his stride. After a rocky start to the season, Musgrove settled in with a 3.68 ERA in May. The veteran righty thrives off strikeouts, which should translate to another successful night on the bump for him.
The Mariners have struggled mightily against right-handed pitching all season and are fifth in baseball in strikeouts against RHP with 412. This is certainly not a recipe for success against Joe Musgrove, who seems to be improving in every start he makes. It also doesn’t help that the majority of this Mariners lineup hasn’t seen Musgrove or has subpar numbers against him. Only Kolten Wong, Eugenio Suarez, and Colin Moran have seen the righty before, and their numbers are brutal: many strikeouts and not many hits.
The Padres should be one of the best teams in baseball based on their roster and payroll. Instead, they have underperformed immensely as they currently sit four games under .500. Their luck won’t improve tonight, as they face one of the best young righties in baseball. Logan Gilbert has faced the majority of this Padres lineup a handful of times, having great success in a limited sample. With how the Padres have been swinging it, I wouldn’t be surprised if we see a gem out of Gilbert with his high-strikeout tendencies.
The Padres are 3-7 to the under over their last ten games. This offense isn’t heating up against Logan Gilbert and this above-average Mariners bullpen. After the total opened at 8, it has since dropped to 7.5, which is an interesting move considering that nearly 70% of the handle is currently backing the over (per VSIN). Fade the public and back these solid arms who both have great matchups against struggling offenses tonight. The Padres have been a cash cow on unders this season, don’t expect anything to change against one of baseball’s most promising young arms.
