Atlanta Braves vs. New York Mets Prediction: Can Pete Alonso, Mets Get Revenge?

The Atlanta Braves and the New York Mets had an exciting first game of their series last night, but how will the second game play out? Can Pete Alonso and the Mets get revenge? Oddschecker handicapper Krabs shares his prediction and best bet.

Atlanta Braves vs. New York Mets Prediction: Can Pete Alonso, Mets Get Revenge?

One of the best aspects of baseball is the chirping, or “trash-talking,” between the teams. Last night, two of the best teams in baseball were beefing during a nationally televised game. Pete Alonso hit a home run and shouted, “throw it again,” from the dugout afterward.

When the Braves made a comeback and tied the game up, they couldn’t resist but to chirp back with the same phrase…

Will we see the same fire out of the two best teams in the NL East as they face off again tonight? As fans, we should hope so. The Mets only had one hit the rest of the game following Alonso’s chirps. I have a feeling this offense will come out firing tonight, looking for revenge against a familiar face, Charlie Morton.

Atlanta Braves vs. New York Mets Prediction

Do you know who has great numbers against Morton in his career? Pete Alonso, who started the beef with the Braves last night. Alonso is 6-18 in his career against Morton, and many other Mets have good numbers against the veteran. Daniel Vogelbach has been struggling but sees Morton well in his career, with two home runs in 13 at-bats. Eduardo Escobar, Jeff McNeil, and Mark Canha all have had success against the Braves righty. This Mets roster has a combined nine home runs against Charlie Morton, and with the total at 9.5 up a run from the 8.5 opener, it’s looking like that number will only increase tonight.

Max Scherzer has struggled in 2023 but pitched extremely well over his last four starts. Those starts were against the struggling Philadelphia Phillies, Colorado Rockies, Cleveland Guardians, and Washington Nationals. Tonight he faces a Braves lineup that is extremely familiar to him. Many of the Braves have seen Scherzer well over the years from his time in Washington, D.C. He isn’t afraid to give up the long ball, either.

The over tonight between these two National League heavyweights is sharp, with 33% of bets but 64% of handle backing it (per VSIN). It seems big bets have been placed on this over, including mine. With it on the rise, grab it before it closes at 10. Although expecting ten runs in a game with Max Scherzer and Charlie Morton pitching, this isn’t 2015. Both of these legends have struggled at times this year and have bad matchups against very familiar lineups. Back the over and fade both veteran arms to struggle against two fired-up lineups after last night’s drama.
