5 minThe Washington Nationals can score; they just have one of the worst bullpens in baseball. The offense has not been the issue for Washington, who has one of the most improved offenses in baseball compared to 2022. Tonight, they will face the soft-throwing veteran Zach Davies, who’s been hittable in his five starts this season. Will the Arizona Diamondbacks bats stay hot and stick it to Patrick Corbin and the Nationals, or will the underrated Nats offense shine?

Washington Nationals vs. Arizona Diamondbacks Prediction
Patrick Corbin has improved greatly since one of the worst seasons in MLB history as a starting pitcher in 2022. Corbin had a 4.21 ERA in May but struggled mightily in his most recent two starts. The veteran lefty allowed seven hits against both the Royals and Dodgers, resulting in ten runs. As a Nationals fan, I’ve watched every single one of Corbin’s starts in 2023. He was on fire two weeks ago, but right now, Corbin is extremely fadeable.
The Diamondbacks have one of the best offenses in baseball, near the top five in almost every single important statistical category. The only thing they don’t excel at is the long ball, but against Corbin, it’s almost better facing him in a contact-heavy approach. The veteran has done a better job at limiting runs this season, but he’s given up the second most hits in baseball this season. The Diamondbacks are a matchup nightmare for Corbin, whose earned runs allowed prop is set at 3.5 tonight. Corbin hasn’t allowed more than three runs in four of his previous five starts, but they’ve bumped up this prop from recent weeks from the usual 2.5 earned runs allowed prop. It looks like oddsmakers are expecting a brutal outing from the Nationals’ lefty…
Don’t let the Nationals fool you with their record, they are eighth in baseball in hits this season. Much like Corbin, Zach Davies pitches to contact. He’s already allowed 21 hits in less than 19 innings this season, a bad recipe for success against the Nationals, who thrive off stringing together hits, not the long ball. Both of these offenses have great matchups against soft-throwing veterans who should struggle tonight.
The Nationals' bullpen is bottom-five in the league and has been struggling mightily of late. Even if Corbin is able to limit the damage early, Arizona will have no trouble doing some damage late in the game, much like they did last night. This Nationals bullpen is running on fumes. Their best reliever has been Chad Kuhl over the past week; this is an issue. Expect runs throughout this game from Arizona as Washington’s bullpen continues to struggle.
This bet might cash by the fifth inning. With the moneyline almost at a Pick ‘Em, after Arizona opened up a (-165) favorite, this movement reminds me of last night's game that ended 10-5. It looks like oddsmakers don’t know who’s winning this game, but with the increasing total, we can expect plenty of runs from both sides. Bet the over and enjoy what should be an offensive showcase.
