Texas Rangers vs. Los Angeles Angels Prediction: Can the Bats Get to Dane Dunning, Tyler Anderson?

Dane Dunning lost his spot in the Texas Rangers' starting rotation at the start of 2023. After an underwhelming 2022, the Rangers decided to put Dunning in the bullpen. Well, they ended up needing a starter after an injury, so they decided to give Dunning one more shot in the rotation. This led to a 2.28 ERA in five starts in May.

After that insane stretch, the wheels have started falling off the wagon for Dunning over his last two starts. The young righty gave up 14 hits and seven runs against the Tigers and Cardinals in his last two starts. Tonight he faces a red-hot Angels lineup (besides Trout) at home. Will Dunning “right the ship,” or was his incredible May just an outlier on his spotty young career?

Texas Rangers vs. Los Angeles Angels Prediction

The Los Angeles Angels have been playing solid baseball lately and are currently five games over .500 in 2023. Shohei Ohtani has been on fire lately, with three home runs and 11 hits over his past seven games. Luis Rengifo and Zach Neto aren’t big-name guys, but they’ve been raking for the Angels recently.

This lineup can hit; there’s no doubt about it. They might not have the pitching to win a playoff series, but they sure do have the offensive firepower to get them there. Tonight, these red-hot Angels bats face a struggling righty in a hitter-friendly ballpark. They may not win, but they will definitely put up some runs in this matchup tonight.

The Rangers might have the best offense in baseball. They absolutely crush left-handed pitching, with nearly a .290 batting average against them this season. Tyler Anderson is pitching for the Angels tonight, and he’s taking a significant step back since his 2.57 ERA with the Dodgers in 2022. Anderson sports a 5.62 ERA this season and has struggled mightily with his command. The veteran lefty is in for a rough night against debatably the best left-handed hitting offense in MLB.

This total opened at 9.5 before getting steamed up to 10 on most sportsbooks. This is an interesting move considering that less than half the handle is currently backing the over. Overs are 19-10-1 at Globe Life Field this season, and until the Rangers’ bats cool off, continue to back their offense. Back both offenses to show out once again tonight with great matchups in a hitter-friendly ballpark and a high total.
