A matchup against a struggling lefty could be just what the doctor ordered for Houston, who historically crushed left-handed pitching. Will the Astros’ bats awaken against a soft-throwing lefty, or will Patrick Corbin do the impossible and shut down Houston at home?

Houston Astros vs. Washington Nationals Prediction
The Astros have been underwhelming lately, but this team is quietly eight games over .500 in 2023. They’re hitting .260 with a .763 OPS against left-handed pitching this season and should thrive against Corbin, who’s been shaky in his last few starts.
After a month and a half of solid pitching, it looks like Corbin has regressed back to last year’s version of himself, who finished the year with a league-worst 6.31 ERA. He’s given up 25 hits and 13 runs in less than 18 innings of work over his previous three starts. Corbin is in for a rough night against an Astros team that loves facing lefties.
Alex Bregman is 0-7 against Corbin in his career, a trend that simply cannot continue. With Jose Altuve, Jose Abreu, and Kyle Tucker in the middle of the lineup, there are plenty of weapons in this Astros lineup to match up favorably against Corbin.
If the Oakland Athletics weren’t around, the Nationals would have the worst bullpen in baseball. Even if Corbin is able to limit the damage, the Astros should feast on Washington’s bullpen, ranked the second worst in baseball. The Nationals don’t even have a set closer at this point and have zero dominant relievers on their roster. Expect runs early and often from Houston against Corbin and this atrocious Nationals’ bullpen.

After returning home from a brutal road trip, Houston may put up double digits tonight. This team thrives at home. Houston scores more runs and performs better overall in Houston, which should benefit them tonight as they look to rebound from a sub-par road trip. Patrick Corbin is extremely vulnerable right now and will struggle mightily against this Astros’ lineup.
