Don’t look now, but the Los Angeles Angels have a better record than the Los Angeles Dodgers. These teams enter tonight’s late-night matchup moving in two different directions. The Dodgers have surprisingly lost six of their previous ten games, and the Angels enter tonight winning seven of their last ten. With Clayton Kershaw on the bump, will the Dodgers “right the ship,” or will the Angels continue to stay hot at home?

Los Angeles Angels vs. Los Angeles Dodgers Prediction
The Angels are 20-14 at Angel Stadium. The Dodgers have a losing record on the road in 2023. The public seems to think the Dodgers will get back on track tonight with their future “Hall of Famer” on the mound. Over 70% of bets and the handle are currently backing the Dodgers (on DraftKings), but the odds have shifted ten cents toward the Angels. This reverse line movement is a great sign for Angels backers.
Kershaw has been great in June, only allowing four runs in twenty innings pitched. His matchup tonight will be much more difficult, though, as he faces an Angels team who crushes left-handed pitching. Although Shohei Ohtani prefers facing right-handed pitching, the majority of this team has better numbers against lefties. Shohei has been so locked in recently, it doesn’t matter who he is facing. On pace for an MVP award, Shohei is hitting .421 with four home runs in his last seven games.
Reid Detmers is one of the best left-handed pitchers when he’s healthy and locked in. The problem is, he’s rarely healthy. Well, Detmers has finally started to put some good starts together. The lefty has looked great against the Texas Rangers and Chicago Cubs in his most recent outings, and I wouldn’t be surprised if he carries that momentum into tonight.
As a short favorite against the Angels, Kershaw is already an intriguing line, but factor in his opponent Reid Detmers with a 4.48 ERA, and this line becomes even weirder. Kershaw should be at least (-160) against Detmers and the Angels, regardless of how the teams have performed in recent weeks. The Angels, as a short underdog, is a great look tonight as they continue to overperform all expectations. Back the Angels on the moneyline to hand Kershaw his fifth loss of the season, and the Dodgers their fourth loss in a row.
