San Francisco Giants vs. San Diego Padres Prediction: Should You Fade Anthony DeSclafani, Giants?

Nobody is talking about it because the Cincinnati Reds are stealing their thunder, but the San Francisco Giants have won eight games in a row. Their bullpen has been elite in June, and their offense has improved dramatically since calling up some of their prospects. With Anthony DeSclafani on the mound, will the Giants win their ninth straight, or will the San Diego Padres play spoiler?

San Francisco Giants vs. San Diego Padres Prediction

Anthony DeSclafani had his ERA for the season below 3.00 in May but struggled in June. The 33-year-old righty has a 9.00 ERA in June and has struggled mightily with his command. After walking only six batters in May, DeSclafani has already walked eight batters in his three June starts. The Padres aren’t a team to who you want to be giving free baserunners right now…

Before dropping the first game of this series, the Padres were on a heater. It looks like this stacked lineup has finally woken up. After beating the Tampa Bay Rays in a three-game series, San Diego wants to continue building on their momentum. It won’t be easy for the Padres tonight, as Seth Lugo is slated to start. The veteran hasn’t made an appearance in over a month as he’s been recovering from a calf injury.

Buy low on the Padres while you still can. This team has the makings of a World Series roster, and they are starting to turn the corner after a brutal start to the season. Even if Lugo isn’t able to pitch deep into this game, the Padres bullpen has been top-six in baseball over the last thirty games with a 3.56 ERA.

It’s interesting to see the Padres as the betting favorite in this matchup, considering Lugo is making his first start in over a month, the Padres are still below .500, and the Giants are on an eight-game winning streak. The public seems to think the Giants are “free” on the moneyline tonight, with nearly 65% of bets currently backing them. Only 25% of the handle is currently on the Giants moneyline though, which is a great sign for Padres backers.

Fading the Giants on their current win streak is not for the faint of heart. The Padres do have a great matchup tonight against a soft-throwing righty, though. Back the Padres bats to do just enough in this matchup to squeak out a road win and end the Giants’ impressive win streak.
