New York has lost four of their previous five games but was able to steal the first game of this series last night. After opening up a (+150) favorite, the Yankees are currently (+130) on the moneyline. This is an interesting line move, considering 55% of bets are currently backing the Mariners to win this game (on DraftKings).
It’s clear the Mariners have the pitching advantage in this matchup with Castillo on the bump. The Yankees are calling Jhony Brito back up from the minors after recently demoting him from the major league club. The righty is only 25 years old and has struggled mightily with his command. Even after getting demoted back to AAA, Brito recorded a 7.08 ERA. As bettors, the question shouldn’t be whether we think Brito pitches well tonight or not. The only question that matters is why the Yankees are not +200 with Brito on the mound against Castillo.
Although it is important to know the sport and follow trends, there are times in betting when you have the bet numbers, not the teams. The fact that the worst offense in baseball over in June is only (+130) with Jhony Brito on the mound against Luis Castillo is enough for me to bet on the Yankees tonight.
With the total moving from 8.5 to 7, it’s looking like this game is going to be another low-scoring affair, similar to last night. It’s a great sign for Yankees bettors that the total is this low with Brito starting. If he was going to get blown up, this total would be higher, especially in a hitter-friendly ballpark like Yankee Stadium. With the total at seven, back the Yankees on the run line. Their bullpen could find a way to blow this game, but either way, I see it going down to the wire in a one-run nail-biter.
