He’s only given up one run in 20 innings pitched over his last three starts. Considering the Phillies’ offense struggles this week and the New York Mets’ season-long struggles, why is this total at 9.5?

With Senga’s recent gem against the Phillies and the Taijuan Walker being completely dialed in, the total being set this high is extremely telling. Less than half the bets, but over 70% of the betting handle is currently backing the over tonight. It looks like big bets are being placed on this contrarian under, including mine.
Yes, this Philadelphia offense struggled to produce runs against the Braves this week, but the Phillies historically struggle in Atlanta. They face a much less-formidable opponent tonight in Senga and the Mets’ bullpen. Overall, this Phillies team is still trending upward in June. Even after dropping their last two games, Philadelphia is 7-3 in their last ten games. This offense is starting to heat up, much like they did in 2022 after a slow start. Expect the Phillies to have much better luck against Senga the second time around.
Taijuan Walker has pitched a little too well recently. Tonight, he faces a Mets team that is finally healthy with Pete Alonso back in the lineup. The Mets lost their previous series in Houston but put up 21 runs over three games. This Mets offense is finally starting to heat up. I don’t know if any starting pitcher is capable of slowing the Mets’ bats down after what we saw them do in Houston, especially not Taijuan Walker, who couldn’t be more due for regression.
While the public continues to bet the under, fade the public and back these two improving offenses. This total is insanely high and for good reason. Unders are also 17-11-4 at Citizens Bank Park, a trend that should average out as the season goes on. Expect more overs in Philadelphia over the next few weeks, especially tonight, as they welcome in the surging Mets’ offense.
