5 minSan Diego Padres vs. Washington Nationals Prediction: Expect Seth Lugo, MacKenzie Gore to Dominate
The Washington Nationals don’t have much going for them in 2023. MacKenzie Gore has been one of the few bright spots for the Nationals this season but is coming off a rough start against the St. Louis Cardinals. The San Diego Padres offense has improved recently, but the Padres are still three games under .500 on the season. Will Seth Lugo and the Padres bounce back after last night’s 2-0 loss and win the series against the Nationals tonight?

San Diego Padres vs. Washington Nationals Prediction
Seth Lugo dealt in his first start off the IL last week. The Nats have struggled mightily against right-handed pitching all season. They could only put up two runs against a Padres’ righty making his MLB debut last night, although they did pull out a victory. Either way, the Nationals' offense isn’t performing at a high level right now.
Josiah Gray dealt last night against the Padres. Expect the other Nats' young arm to shine against one of the most overrated offenses in baseball. Gore is known to follow up a bad start with a gem, so I wouldn’t be surprised to see him deal tonight. He already pitched against the Padres once this season, giving up three runs.
Lugo looked much improved after coming off the IL after his calf injury healed. He should thrive against one of the worst RHP-facing lineups in baseball. Besides Lane Thomas, the Nationals are ice cold at the plate, and although the Padres bullpen is suspect, they should lock down the closing innings once Lugo hands them the ball.
Unders are 14-25-2 at Petco Park this season. It’s a pitcher's park, and it doesn’t hurt that these two offenses couldn’t put up more than five runs if they tried right now. Back these arms to find success against two struggling lineups and fade the Nationals' offense against a right-handed starter. This game won’t have more than six or seven runs, and they might all come from the Padres.
