Texas Rangers vs. Houston Astros Prediction: Expect Jon Gray, Rangers to Dominate

The Houston Astros are coming off a 14-0 victory in St. Louis last night. They are headed to Texas to face the Rangers, coming off a loss to the Detroit Tigers last night. With Jon Gray on the mound, will the Rangers catch Houston sleeping after a big win last night?

Texas Rangers vs. Houston Astros Prediction

Jon Gray has been impeccable in 2023. He’s missed some time due to injury and struggled in his first start back against the Toronto Blue Jays. He followed up that brutal performance with a gem against the New York Yankees in the Bronx, where he only allowed three hits and one run. Expect much of the same against the Astros tonight as Gray continues his career year.

Fading teams coming off big wins in baseball is profitable. Houston just destroyed the St. Louis Cardinals last night, and must feel like they are on top of the world after putting up 24 runs in their previous two games. These Astros bats will face a much tougher test tonight against Gray.

The Rangers are 26-15 at Globe Life Field this season, a trend that doesn’t look like it’s slowing down anytime soon. Josh Jung was just named an All Star Game starter last night as a rookie, an incredible feat. The Rangers have four starters in the All Star Game this year, much deserved with their elite offense.

Texas has a significant pitching advantage against Houston tonight. Ronel Blanco has been serviceable for the Astros, but he’s no Jon Gray. Blanco owns a 4.70 ERA in June, and has walked eleven batters in 23 innings pitched. After losing to the Tigers yesterday, expect this Rangers’ offense to bounce back in a big way against a mediocre starter.

The Rangers opened up a (-150) favorite, and with nearly 60% of bets and handle backing them today, the line has moved up to (-175). This is a significant move against the Astros, who typically get more respect than they deserve from oddsmakers. Back the Rangers to catch the Astros sleeping after a big win in St. Louis and earn a win with Jon Gray on the bump.
