The Mets will probably win this battle with a payroll of 364 million and six games under .500. The underperforming Mets ended with the worst record through the first eighty games of a season by a team with the largest payroll in MLB since the nineties. Looking to sweep the Arizona Diamondbacks in their own ballpark, will New York finally start gaining some momentum?

Ryne Nelson sports a 4.67 ERA in 2023, but the young righty has thrown back-to-back gems. The 25-year-old Diamondback only allowed two runs in over 14 innings against two potent offenses in Anaheim and San Francisco. It won’t be an easier task against this stacked Mets’ lineup, but the “little brother” team of New York has underperformed for months.
Carlos Carrasco has also pitched well over his last two starts, but the crafty veteran has yet to establish any sort of consistency or dominance this season. Arizona hasn’t seen him much, but they should thrive against his low-velo pitch mix. This potent offense finds success against right-handed pitching, with a better batting average, on base, and slugging percentage against righties on the year.
After a 2-1 nail-biter on Wednesday, oddsmakers see this total at 10. They seem to be expecting some offense, which I’m willing to bet mainly comes from the home team. With the public jumping back on the Mets going for their first road sweep of the season, fade this team until a change is made. We are almost halfway through the MLB, and this team has shown that they don’t know how to win.
