Boston Red Sox vs. Texas Rangers Prediction

While Jacob deGrom might have been the crown jewel of off-season pickups, Nathan Eovaldi is proving why he should be in this conversation. He has been one of the most consistent pitchers in the MLB, with a 2.64 ERA to pair with a spectacular 10-3 record. He has 106 strikeouts on the season and has only given up two runs over his last two starts.

Eovaldi has pitched with insane consistency, making it past the sixth inning in 13 of his last 15 starts this season. While he did run into a rough patch, it seems like his velocity is back up, and he’s comfortable. In interviews, he attributed the downtick in velocity to mechanical reasons rather than health, which is obviously huge.

This year, he’s been particularly impressive on the road, pitching to a 2.44 ERA and a 6-1 record. Over his last nine road starts, he’s pitched a combined 60.1 innings, showing a very long leash. He is also 80th percentile in walk rate and has historically made a good jump by limiting the walks.

He finds himself in a very interesting matchup against his former team! While I like all the numbers that support this, it's always good to have a little added narrative action, with Eovaldi returning to the place he most recently pitched. That being said, over the last two weeks, the Boston Red Sox rank fourth worst in wRC+ and eighth worst in OPS against right-handed pitching.

Since this prop is -160, we paired it with Jordan Lyles not to record a win. Lyles is 1-11 this season with an 8.02 road ERA. The Cleveland Guardians offense has been playing better, and I trust Tanner Bibee (5-2, 3.46 ERA) on the mound.
