Milwaukee Brewers vs. Cincinnati Reds Prediction: Will the Reds Get to Corbin Burnes, Brewers?

Only days away from the MLB All-Star Game, who would have expected the Cincinnati Reds to be leading the pennant race in the NL Central? At this point, it isn’t a fluke: the Reds are here to stay. Tonight, their new ace will face off against Corbin Burnes and the Milwaukee Brewers, who are only two games behind Cincinnati in the standings. Will Andrew Abbott continue this incredible start to his career with another gem?

Milwaukee Brewers vs. Cincinnati Reds Prediction

Andrew Abbott wasn’t even on the Reds’ Opening Day roster. Once June hit, Cincinnati needed another arm and made the call. The 24-year-old lefty has made six starts and owns an impeccable 1.21 ERA. This kid has already dominated some of the best lineups in baseball, including the Baltimore Orioles and Houston Astros. His debut was against Milwaukee, and Abbott pitched six shutout innings. This kid is not only the Reds’ ace; he is already one of the best left-handed pitchers in baseball.

The Reds can’t stop winning. They’re coming off a four-game sweep in the nation’s capital and look hungry to increase their gap in the NL Central standings. Even with their overworked bullpen, this team finds a way to win almost every night. It’s also worth noting that the Reds haven’t lost a game when Abbott starts…

It’s been an up-and-down season for Corbin Burnes, who many consider to be the Brewers’ ace. He is coming off his best start of the season, where he carried a no-hit bid into the later innings against Pittsburgh last week. In the two starts before that, Burnes allowed sixteen hits and eleven runs in 10.2 innings of work against the Cleveland Guardians and Arizona Diamondbacks. He did pitch fairly well against the Reds earlier this season, but this lineup has only improved since that early June start.

The Brewers’ ace has seen better days, like in April and May when he carried a 3.40 ERA. Burnes’ ERA sky-rocketed in June, where he owned a 4.99 ERA and struggled mightily with his command. The Reds are one of the most patient teams in baseball, third in MLB in walks this season. If Burnes struggles once again with his command, it will be a tough night against one of the hottest teams in baseball.

Just like when the Reds were on their crazy ten-game winning streak earlier this year, back them until they lose. The Brewers have owned the Reds over the years, but this team is different. Continue to buy stock on this up-and-coming team, especially against their division rival with their struggling ace on the mound.
