MLB Player Props Today - Friday's Red Sox vs. Athletics Ladder Play
I love the spot today for the Boston Red Sox slugger Rafael Devers. Devers has nine hits and seven RBIs over his last five games and has been hitting .387 (AVG) since June 24th. He gets a matchup with Oakland Athletics pitcher Luis Medina who is no stranger to allowing lots of runs. Medina holds a 6.37 ERA and has allowed three or more runs in seven of his eight starts, with 4+ in four of those. These numbers worsen when Medina pitches on the road. His road ERA stands at 7.43, and he has struggled in all four starts. In his four road starts, he has allowed 23 hits, 21 runs, and 16 walks in just 17.1 innings pitched.
Medina will not have it any easier in this matchup, going against a red-hot Red Sox offense that is hitting .310 (AVG) over their last six games, averaging 5.5 runs per game over that span. Devers will likely have three of these four guys hitting in front of him - Alex Verdugo, Justin Turner, Masataka Yoshida, and Jarren Duran, which should set up nicely for some at-bats with runners in scoring position.
Verdugo has struggled over his last few games but still posts a .354 AVG and .416 OBP at home versus right-handed pitching. Turner comes into this game on fire, with 2+ hits in four of his last five games, hitting .476 in that span. Yoshida is also swinging a hot bat, racking up 2+ hits in five straight games, hitting .550 over that span. Duran has very similar numbers to Yoshida, hitting .550 over his last six games. To summarize, all these hitters are finding their way on base, which makes for great RBI chances for our guy Rafael Devers.
With how Devers has been swinging the bat lately, I’m expecting him to go for extra bases at least once tonight. In games where Devers has recorded an extra-base hit, he has gone for 1+ RBI in 29 of 30 games, 2+ RBIS in 15 of his last 27 games, 3+ RBIs in seven of his last 26 games, and 4+ RBIs in four of his last 26 games. I think it’s a great spot for Devers, and this Red Sox team, and I expect them to get to Medina quickly and put up some runs tonight, making it a great spot to ladder RBIs.
