The Boston Red Sox came into the season with a ton of uncertainty at the starting pitcher position. The resurgence of James Paxton has been a pleasant surprise, but no surprise has been bigger than the breakout of young pitcher Brayan Bello. Bello has been on a tear as of late. Can he continue against a Chicago Cubs team struggling versus right-handed pitchers?

Chicago Cubs vs. Boston Red Sox Prediction

The Cubs come into Friday struggling mightily versus right-handed pitching. Unfortunately for them, they get to face one of the hottest pitchers in the MLB. The Cubs rank dead last in batting average versus right-handed pitching in the last seven days, bottom 10 in the last 14 days, and the last month. The Cubs also rank in the bottom 10 for strikeouts against right-handed pitching in each of the time periods and their year-long rankings.

Brayan Bello has had a breakout season to remember. Although he isn't known for his strikeouts prowess, he has hit his line of 4.5, which is 71% of the time this season. My main concern about that is his strikeouts per inning, and his K-rate is quite low for someone I like to bet on, so I will stay away. Instead, I will target Bello's outs instead. Bello has gone over his 17.5 line in six straight games. In five of those six games, he has gone over 20 outs, let alone 17.5 outs. Bello is averaging 20.8 outs in his last five starts and has an excellent matchup to supplement that.
