Oakland Athletics vs. Minnesota Twins Prediction
Carlos Correa is definitely not having the strongest season, but I think he may be in store for a stronger second half of the year. For an MLB hitter, I'm not sure there is a better way to get back in your groove than to face the Oakland Athletics. Beyond just a struggling starting rotation, the Athletics also have had a historically bad bullpen this year.
Correa also did go into the break with some positive signs, hitting .324 over his last 15 games and .300 in the month of June. He has 1+ hits in eight of his last nine starts and 22 of his last 30. Even with a low average, he has still been fairly consistent in getting on base. I have plenty of trust in the Minnesota Twins lineup against this Athletics pitching staff.
Additionally, we get him against a left-handed pitcher, and Correa has historically good spits there. He’ll get at least one at-bat against Ken Waldichuk (2-6/6.663 ERA) who is primarily throwing 4sfb/sweeper to right-handed hitters. Correa’s best run-value pitch by far this season is the sweeper, which he’s slugging .500 against. Additionally, he possesses a .282 xBA against the 4SFB, which is his most common pitch.
We paired it with Trevor Williams no-win because the Washington Nationals face a tough matchup against the St. Louis Cardinals offense. These two pitchers met up earlier this year, and the Cardinals won 3-0. With a fully rested bullpen and the addition of an extra arm due to Corbin going on paternity leave, I think Williams has a strong leash tonight.
