MLB Prop Picks Today: Targeting These Steven Kwan Props on Monday Night

Today we’re targeting hitters on the Guardians and Red Sox in good matchups. While the Guardians haven’t been the strongest offense this season, they do have a couple of guys that are trending in the right direction. In today’s matchup against the Pirates, they face Quinn Priester, who is making his MLB debut.

MLB Prop Picks Today

While we obviously don’t have much information on him, I’m generally very comfortable fading MLB pitchers in their first starts. Nothing prepares you for the big leagues like being in the big league, and I think we can take advantage. The FanGraphs Prospects report states that scouts love him, but the pitch data does not. “His fastball doesn’t miss bats and his report reads like Aaron Sanchez did”. It seems like his best pitch by far is the Curveball (which this team hits well) and the rest of his arsenal is still developing.

Steven Kwan is someone who started off a little slow but has been very good recently. I debated a lot between his hit/hits+runs+RBIs market but ended up rolling with him on both. He’s coming in today on the heels of a 4-hit game and is hitting .327 in the month of July and .462 over this last week. Kwan is known for his consistency, and bat-to-ball skills, recording 1+ hits in 19 of his last 25 starts. He is batting over .270 against each of Priester's top 3 pitches, I think he sets the tone early.

I will also be sprinkling on the first AB (at-bat) to be walk/HBP at +650. Kwan is a fairly patent hitter and I like taking advantage of a 22-year-old making his first major league start. The jitters are unavoidable, and I think it’s worth a look.

I paired Kwan with the Red Sox and Jarren Duran, going up against Paul Blackburn and the Athletics. Blackburn is allowing a .317 OBA to lefty hitters, and that’s unfortunate, going up against a lineup with Duran, Verdugo, Yoshida, and Devers, along with Turner and Casas raking from the right side. Blackburn has allowed 44 hits in 37 IP and I expect the Red Sox to jump all over him. Yoshida is getting all the credit for good reason, but Duran is right there with him hitting .318 on the season and .325 vs RHP. He’s hitting .516 L15 and .388 L30, I like the good recent form combined with the matchup.
