Seattle Mariners vs. Minnesota Twins Best Bet: Can the Twins Get the Better of Luis Castillo, Mariners?

Seattle Mariners vs. Minnesota Twins Best Bet: Can the Twins Get the Better of Luis Castillo, Mariners?

The Seattle Mariners became “America’s Team” during their historic 2022 season when they ended a 21-year-long playoff drought. Unfortunately for Seattle, they haven’t been able to replicate the same success this year. Sitting at .500, the Mariners are barely staying afloat, thanks to their starting rotation. Although Luis Castillo is the Mariners’ ace, it’s been the middle of that rotation holding this team together, not “La Piedra.” Facing the Minnesota Twins tonight, will Castillo shake off his recent struggles and earn a much-needed victory?

Seattle Mariners vs. Minnesota Twins Prediction

If you looked at Kenta Maeda and Luis Castillo’s expected stats, you wouldn’t be able to tell the difference between the two. Although this is shocking, it’s true: Maeda owns a 3.86 xERA, while Castillo is nearly the same at 3.81 xERA. Although betting on Castillo to out-pitch Maeda might look easy at first glance, Maeda has actually pitched better than his numbers show, with Castillo surprisingly over-performing. Don’t be fooled by his recent All-Star selection; Castillo and the Mariners don’t have as much of an advantage as you’d initially expect.

To be honest, Castillo has struggled at times in his recent outings. He’s given up nearly twice as many home runs in the last two months of the season than he did in April and May. Although this Twins’ offense doesn’t impress many, they’ve started to heat up post-All-Star break. Minnesota has won four of their previous five games, thanks to their offense. The Twins have scored 37 runs in their last five games, utilizing the long ball early and often. Don’t be surprised if they take advantage of Castillo’s recent struggles with home runs of late.

The Twins are a team I want to be putting my hard-earned money on for the coming weeks. I like the trajectory of this team ever since they held a “team meeting” before their series in Baltimore earlier this month. This offense has new life, and their rotation is solid enough. I don’t think Kenta Maeda has gotten enough respect for his return to the big leagues this season, and he hasn’t looked terrible. If anything, this Mariners’ offense has looked terrible for the majority of the season.

With nearly 75% of bets and handle (per VSIN) backing the Mariners tonight, the odds on the moneyline haven’t moved a cent. Not only was I expecting the Mariners to be much heavier of a favorite tonight with “big-name” Castillo on the bump, but I definitely thought we’d see some line movement. This is a great sign for Twins backers tonight, as the books look content with being overexposed on the Mariners. Bet with the sharps and back Maeda to keep Minnesota in this game and earn his third win of the season.
