Ryne Nelson Diamondbacks

St. Louis Cardinals vs. Arizona Diamondbacks Best Bet Can the Cards Hammer Ryne Nelson?

St. Louis Cardinals vs. Arizona Diamondbacks Best Bet. There aren’t many sports bettors willing to put their hard-earned money on the Cardinals tonight with Adam Wainwright making his return. Let me tell you why it might not be the worst idea to back the future Hall of Famer in his first start in nearly two months.

St. Louis Cardinals vs. Arizona Diamondbacks Best Bet Can the Cards Hammer Ryne Nelson?

Right now, less than 10% of the bets and handle are currently backing Wainwright in his return to the mound. Although fading the public isn’t a profitable system on its own, it’s always a great sign to be on the opposite side of the money.

St. Louis Cardinals vs. Arizona Diamondbacks Best Bet

“Waino” clearly hasn’t been himself in 2023, carrying a 7.66 ERA up to this point. If there’s one thing we know about the 41 year old veteran, it’s that he always keeps it real, only giving his honest views and opinions. Well, for the first time in years, we heard Waino sound confident while talking to the media. He stated, that for the first time in years, he feels healthy.

Would you want to fade a future Hall of Famer who’s saying he’s finally healthy and ready to go? If anything, I’d want to back that HOF’er before oddsmakers adjust his betting market. If he really is finally healthy, this could be the last time we get to bet on Waino as an underdog…

Luckily for Wainwright, he won’t have to throw a gem for the Cardinals to win this game. St. Louis is facing Ryne Nelson, a second-year righty with a 4.82 ERA. Nelson has struggled mightily in his second MLB season, but he is coming off his best outing of the year against the Braves. Besides his start in Anaheim, Nelson has followed up any decent start he’s made this year with an absolute dud of a performance. Don’t be surprised if he gets rocked tonight against a Cardinals lineup that’s shown signs of life post-All-Star break.

I’m willing to buy low on Adam Wainwright, who says he’s healthy for the first time in years. I don’t trust many players, but I’m willing to put my trust in the future Hall of Famer. It doesn’t hurt that he’ll be facing a reeling Diamondbacks team that’s lost eight of their last ten. Arizona has struggled mightily for the greater part of a month. Fade this overvalued them, and buy low on one of the most consistent pitchers of the past two decades.
