The Kansas City Royals are coming off their first sweep of the season after sweeping the Minnesota Twins at home over the weekend. Although the Royals sit rock bottom in last place in the AL Central, they have shown some fight post-all-star break, and the New York Mets are mentally in a much worse spot. Zack Greinke is back on the bump tonight, opposite Jose Quintana. Can the Royals continue to make some noise?

Kansas City Royals vs. New York Mets Prediction
As far as momentum goes, this is the most momentum the Royals have had all season, and momentum can be one of the biggest aspects of MLB betting. Even bad teams go on runs, as the Oakland A's showed us previously this season. Maybe this is the Royals' time to go on a run, and it couldn't come against a more perfect team.
The Mets are having a very, very disappointing season. The Mets have the HIGHEST payroll in the MLB this season, and they were expected to at least make it to the playoffs with that, but 105 games into the season, the Mets are 50-55 and sit in second-to-last place in the NL East. As of now, it doesn't look like they will make the playoffs, as they are behind the Miami Marlins, Milwaukee Brewers, Chicago Cubs, and San Diego Padres, who are all fighting below the wild-card spots.
If you have followed my pick articles frequently this season, you know how I feel about betting on Zack Greinke at home. He is simply a different pitcher in Kauffman Stadium. Greinke has a 5.49 ERA overall, which isn't great. He has an even higher 7.4 ERA on the road, which is horrible. The Royals are 1-9 when Greinke starts on the road. However, Greinke has a much more respectable 3.74 ERA at home this season. The Royals started 0-3 on Greinke's home starts this season, but since then, they are 3-4 in his home starts. Greinke is getting up there in age, but he still had his nasty curveball, and he just loves pitching at home. Maybe it's the crowd or something (I can't imagine there's much of a crowd at Kauffman Stadium).
Given that we're getting a half-run on the first five here, I love the Royals to have this one tied. Jose Quintana is pretty good, but I think the Royals can put up two or so on him. Greinke typically struggles later into his starts, so it may get scary in the fifth, but I like him to come out and have a good start against the struggling Mets. He has been a completely different pitcher at home, and the Royals are building off some momentum.
